A mask is inserted between the laser source and the parts to be welded. A linear, preferably well collimated - i.e. parallel - laser beam is moved across the parts to be joined.
The laser radiation only hits the parts to be joined where it is not blocked by the mask. The mask enables the finest micrometer structures to be reproduced. Therefore, mask welding achieves a very high resolution. Mask welding can be used to produce a wide variety of weld seams, for example, straight and curved weld lines of different widths, as well as flat sections in a single operation.
