Globo welding works on the principle of contour welding.
A point-shaped laser beam is focused on the joining plane via an air-bearing, frictionless rotating glass sphere. The glass sphere not only focuses - it also serves as a mechanical pressure tool. As the ball rolls over the component, it presses down completely on the joining plane. This means that the laser radiation only hits where contact pressure is present. The glass ball replaces the mechanical pressure device and extends the possibilities of laser welding for three-dimensional applications.
Characteristics and application:
Any joining geometries in two or three dimensions
Weld without a clamping device
Optimum synchronization of contact pressure and energy input
Suitable for robotics
